Sheriff Jason Ard Announces Emergency Response & Evacuation Center for Livingston Parish
From Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office:
"The Livingston Parish Emergency Response & Evacuation Center will serve as base camp for first responders/disaster relief crews before/during/after emergencies. It will also serve as a place to house those in need of shelter in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. This first-of-its-kind $45 Million facility will be fully funded by the State of Louisiana through Capital Outlay funding.
THE PLAN:
>Purchase Agreement in place: 50 acres
>LOCATION: In Livingston - S of I-12 on LA 63
> 100,000 square feet
>Completed Project Forecast: Mid - Late 2025
Sheriff Jason Ard says, ‘I never thought this day would come, honestly. But, learning with each disaster to impact Livingston Parish, I’m convinced this is needed & that the people of Livingston Parish deserve it. We have worked with Livingston Parish leaders to secure the funding needed and to find a suitable location. Those who serve here in the aftermath of a disaster will no longer need to sleep in their vehicles or on floors in our hallways. Those who live here with no where to go following a disaster, can come here. This is where they’ll find hope & help.’
Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks says, ‘This center is a blessing for Livingston Parish.‘
When not utilized in response to a disaster, this center can also serve as a multipurpose facility, serving as many as 5,000.
Incoming Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte says, ‘Our heroes deserve this building. Our people deserve this building. The parish will be able to do a lot. This project has my full support. Parish Government working together makes this happen.’
Special thanks to our Livingston Parish legislative delegation for fighting for & supporting this project:
>Representative Buddy Mincey
>Speaker Clay Schexnayder
>Senator Rogers Pope
>Representative Sherman Mack
>Representative Valerie Hodges
>House Ways & Means Chair Stuart Bishop
Sheriff Ard says, ‘I’m excited about this project. We are about to enter the designing phase. We plan to include room for at least 500 cots, room for our energy crews, space for livestock, etc. We’d also like to eventually relocate our main offices to this facility. We still have a ways to go. But, we’ll get there together.’
More details will be shared as this project progresses."
