Arts Council Mural Completion Celebrated with Ribbon Cutting

The Arts Council of Livingston Parish’s long-awaited mural, spanning 70 feet of the exterior wall, is complete. The Council, Leadership Livingston Class of 2019 and the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce celebrated the piece with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday evening.

The Leadership Livingston class of 2019 took on the mural as one of their capstone community service projects. The team raised $3,000 in corporate sponsorships to cover most of the $4,000 project. The Arts Council covered the remaining amount.

Arts Council Board Chari, Terri Sullivan, expressed her gratitude to the Leadership Livingston class and the projects corporate sponsors at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “This would not have happened without your hard work and generosity.”

The program for the evening also included a few words from Denham Springs Mayor, Gerard Landry and the Leadership Livingston class. Livingston Parish Chamber President and CEO, April Wehrs, recognized each of the project sponsors with a certificate.

Sponsors include Premier Concrete Products, Dale M. Erdey Campaign Account, Neighbors Federal Credit Union, Sibley’s Grocery, Blount General Contractors, LLC, and Boyer, Hebert, Abels, & Angelle, LLC.

The artwork was completed by Marita Gentry, a member of the Arts Council and an experienced local muralist and illustrator. The Arts Council Board of Directors selected the artwork from several of Gentry’s designs but were also open to suggestions.

The Arts Council offers classes for adults and children in visual and performing arts. More information about their programs can be found at www.artslivingston.org or on Facebook under “Arts Council of Livingston Parish.”
