Livingston Parish Chamber to award $23,000 in Scholarships
The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce has received over 100 applications for the Academic, Alice Sibley and Ability Beyond Scholarships. The Chamber’s Education Committee Chair, Shannon Bernard states this is the highest number of applicants to date. “We are very pleased with the student’s response to this scholarship opportunity. Guidance counselors from each high school have been very cooperative and attentive to their students assuring solid participation in the program. The chamber’s members, voluntary contributors of this fund, have allowed us to offer 23 scholarships valued at $1000 each to Livingston Parish High School Seniors.”
Winners of the Academic Scholarships are Corissa Blount, Devin Dufrene and Kelsie Jones of Holden High School; Kacie Sibley, Angela Smith, Alexandra Peek, Megan Venturino, and Jacob Hawkins of Doyle High School; Megan Vizinat of Walker High School; Victoria Harris, Bethany McMorris, Zachary Edwards and David Ealy of French Settlement High School; Zachary Webb and Elizabeth Stafford of Live Oak High School and Mattie Fairchild of Denham Springs High School.
Winners of the Alice Sibley Award are Tori Lebeau of Denham Springs High School and Bryan Badon of Albany High School.
Winners of the Ability Beyond Awards are MacKenzie East of Walker High School, Katherine Danna of Live Oak High School and Brook Settoon of Denham Springs High School.
A partnership between the Chamber and the Arts Council of Livingston Parish allows two talented artists to be selected for scholarships. The deadline for the Arts Scholarship has been extended to March 30thand the applications for this program can be located on the Chamber’s website or through you high school guidance counselor.
On April 11, 2012, the chamber will hold its annual Scholarship Awards & Sponsor Recognition Luncheon. Students and Sponsors of the Scholarship Fund will be recognized at this event held at Carter Plantation in Springfield. The program is scheduled to begin at 11:45 and Livingston Parish School Superintendent Bill Spear will be the speaker. RSVP and payment of $20 per person is required and includes lunch. Afterward, Carter Plantation has announced green fees of only $25.00 per person for attendees. To attend the event, contact the Chamber @ 225-665-8155.
